about

Adelaide producer & DJ Inkswel introduces his new project ‘The Snaglepuss’ with the debut single ‘Let It Grow’ featuring legendary New York MC Talib Kweli. A satisfying chunk of classic yet contemporary hiphop featuring slippery p-funk bass and whistling g-funk leads, the track also features a spoken word by Bronx artist Baba Israel and vocal hooks by Inkswel’s wife and musical partner Erin Buku.

Given Inkswel’s hiphop background, the collaboration with Talib is a crowning moment in his 20 year career as a beatmaker and producer. Blackstar and Reflection Eternal were formative inspirations for a generation of heads and Inkswel was no exception. Inkswel and Erin put the demo together with bassist Stephen Lane and sent it to Talib who sent back a fire verse which the team built the rest of the production around. The original track is also packaged with a boom bap leaning remix from Adelaide producer FUNKWIG.

Adelaide born and raised Inkswel (aka Jules Habib) has spent much of the last two decades in the Northern Hemisphere DJing every party and club from Rhythm Section in London to Output in New York and released music on BBE, Atjazz and Sonar Kollektiv among other labels. On the Snaglepuss material, he’s taken a more collaborative approach and much of this record was co-created with Stephen on bass, Sloth on horns, and Erin. Inkswel and the team’s genre bending productions draw influence from P Funk, 80s Pop, Boogie Funk, Classic 90s Hip hop and Contemporary Soul stitching it all together into a seamless multicoloured package.

Let It Grow is released on French Label Cosmocities Records and is available everywhere on 4th March 2022. Look out for more from Inkswel and The Snaglepuss coming in hot in 2022.
